Good Neighbors Make Good Fences

Jan 2, 2015 | Residential Fencing

When you build your fence around your property, you make a clear statement about your style, your home, and coincidentally, about how good of a neighbor you really are.

Sure, our fences create barriers that separate us from our neighbors; but our neighbors benefit from the style and security of our fence as well. In some cases, we’ve even seen neighbors team up to get matching fences to surround both of their properties.

But if you don’t build a good fence, you’re communicating something else  to your neighbor. We’ll give you a hint. It isn’t something good.

Many DIY projects involving fences often make mistakes that negatively impact their neighbors, and in some cases have become stories not unlike the Hatfield and McCoys!

Some common bad neighbor mistakes include:

  • Crossing the property line
  • Improper easement
  • Crooked post hole placements
  • Leaning fence posts
  • Sagging gates
  • Poor craftsmanship
  • Poor materials that discolor or decay quickly
  • Wrong-side-out of panels
  • Incomplete, or lengthy build time

Some of these mistakes may not become evident until you’re far down the line in your build. Remember, just because the local tool shop will rent you an auger, does not mean you should use one. And when a fence panel is only $30 a panel, there is probably a good reason why.

So think of your neighbors when deciding whether to build your fence yourself, or to have it done by professionals.

If after a long and soulful reflection you think it is best to go the professional route, contact us. We’ll make sure you get what you need, and that your neighbors stay happy too.
